Seeking Lakes & Caves
Before our departure, we will go through a short briefing about the route and a cross-check our motorcycles and safety gear.

Our route is designed for big on-off motorcycles, ideal for riders with limited experience in off-road routes. More experienced riders can have a co-rider if they wish.

Today our route will be quite different and a bit more technical, starting with an uphill ascent of 10 kilometers to the ski center of Mount Ziria, this is so that we warm up ourselves and our motorcycles.

In the middle of the well-mapped dirt roads we will enjoy the plateau of Mount Ziria and from there we will descend looking for the village of Goura at the mountainous Korinthos and then the chapel of Agios Fanourios, which is located in the center of the artificial Doxis Lake of Feneos. The chapel joins the land with a narrow strip of land, a chapel so small that it is in perfect harmony with the exceptional beauty of the lake and the landscape. The artificial Doxis Lake of Feneos is situated at an altitude of 900 meters on Mount Helmos and just opposite the foothills of Mount Ziria. Every season the landscape changes colors and an array of smells will tickle your senses. Here we will meet local producers who will encourage us to try their products. Make sure you try everything; the flavors will surprise you.

Behind us is the prefecture of Korinthos. An uphill passage takes us to the southeastern part of Mount Helmos, where the landscape becomes even more fierce and green due to the dense forests, large plane trees and cool streams.

Then we will reach the beautiful picturesque village of Planitero. Here will be our break for lunch, next to the running waters of the village and the dew from the plane trees in the area. The menu will be traditional and of course, we will be given the opportunity to try and local trout.

After finishing our food we will continue and in a very short time, we will reach our next stop where we will meet the support car. We change by wearing comfortable shoes because it's time to visit a totally different world ...... the world of the lake cave (

The spacious and impressive natural entrance of The Cave of Lakes (3.50 m high and 6.50 m wide) could not have gone unnoticed by passers-by. For the viewer, the impression is stronger and unforgettable. Lakes in the interior of a cave are neither common around the world, nor in Greece, where they constitute a unique geological phenomenon. Here the waters sometimes overflow in the winter and stagnate in the other seasons, in the 13 terraced lakes. Relatively recent floods are mentioned in the villagers' accounts for 1922 and 1940, as a result of torrential rainfalls. According to geologists, the cave has been partly opened within the cretaceous limestones of the Tripolis geotectonic zone, and partly within the late cretaceous thin-bedded limestones of the Pindos zone. It has been developed along a fault directed NW, and its general morphology is similar: it is long and narrow and has a comparatively very high roof. From the hydrological viewpoint, the cave may be separated in four parts, starting from its natural entrance, located 83 m lower than the highest level of the cave.

We leave behind the cave and reach the village of Lousi on the west side of Mount Helmos. We are again entering the dirt track of our route, starting with a hill passage heading deep into the forest. The terrain becomes more red and smooth until we begin to descend to a piece of more challenging part of the route, until our next stop at Lake Tsivlou.

Lake Tsivlou is in the prefecture of Achaia and at an altitude of 800 meters. It was created on March 24, 1913, when the Kathi river bed was blocked by a large landslide. The lake has an area of 200 acres and a depth of 80 meters. The name of the lake comes from the village of Tsivlos, which was partially damaged after the landslide. The local tradition calls it Black Lake for the damage it caused. Today Lake Tsivlou is a major wetland habitat that hosts many species of flora and fauna. We will have the opportunity to admire and immortalize the lake with our cameras.

From Lake Tsivlou we will continue to the picturesque village of Zarouchla Achaias, which has wonderful paved streets and we will be in the northwest part of Mount Helmos, heading for the prefecture of Korinthos. We will descend to the plain of Feneos and from there we will reach the foothills of Mount Zireia taking us to our base.

Before our tour is over, another surprise will be waiting for us, the Lake of Dassia. The lake is situated at an altitude of 1,600 meters and is formed by the waters flowing here from the surrounding peaks of Mount Ziria. The fir trees dominate the landscape, while the whole area is overgrown. Our motorcycles will pass by the lake, giving us the opportunity to see all of it. The spectacle is amazing and will definitely reward us.

After returning to our base, those of you who will remain with us,  can relax in your room or take a stroll through the surrounding area. In the evening we will be waiting for you to dine all together, enjoying authentic Greek local flavors.
